From Saint Crispin we said goodbye to Voodoo and sailed North with the intention of stopping at Ruby Reef about 25nm away. Again, we struggled, unable to find an entrance to the lagoon anchorage, and with fading sunlight things became too unsafe to keep looking. So the decision was made to set sail overnight all the way up the Ribbons to number 10, with arrival early morning at the famed Cod Hole. Our overnight sail was simply beautiful with perfect conditions, light winds, clear skies with shooting stars and the Milky Way above, and a slow rolling swell in stunningly deep bluewater of around m.

It was so nice we actually sailed outside the reef system by way of the Coral Sea. What a treat. On arrival at the Cod Hole about 7am we wasted no time despite sleep deprivation. I had dived this place nearly 20 years ago whilst working on a charter boat, and again we were not disappointed. What a place! Cod the size of a small human were there to greet us, happy for us to interact and get up close and personal.

This coupled with crystal clear blue water and perfect visibility made for a stunning free-dive setting. We remained at the Cod Hole anchored nearby for 3 days, diving our butts off. We were so exhausted by the end of the day that an 8pm bedtime routine was necessary! With winds expected to increase we called it, and sailed 12nm to Lizard Island. On-route we sailed with a number of boats all looking to seek a safe harbour before the forecast change, and as we had only light winds at the time up went our favourite sail, the assymetrical spinnaker.

At arrival at Lizard, we were greeted by around 30 boats on anchor, and told promptly that there would be obligatory drinks ashore at 5pm. This is my type of place and it was a great reminder of our stay at the Percy Islands. Such a friendly welcome. Many of them come up each season, sometimes for months! We spent a week at Lizard, enjoying some walks, including to the summit, beach tracks to secluded spots for nudie swims, lazing ashore with a book, and also some chores, including laundry day at a bore pump ashore.

Unfortunately, during our time at Lizard, our little 2. We had met a couple, Rebecca and Ian off Strikemaster, who offered some help. You see, Ian is a retired ocean going Chief Engineer.
