At Interlochen, you are surrounded by a wealth of resources and people who are equally excited to be there as you are. Since coming to Arts Academy, I've become more responsible. I've learned to balance my education with my art. The Visual Arts Department allows people to take an insane risk and gives them the materials and space to do that. The decision to come to Interlochen was an easy one for me. I thought about where I wanted to be later in life—and I knew Interlochen would be the place to help get me there.
I am so passionate about what I do—and I knew that staying home wasn't going to be enough for me. So, I made the choice to come to Interlochen. Being here has pushed me to take that extra step. Had I been at home, I don't think I would have made as much progress.
I'm going to look back at Interlochen and think 'Wow, I was here. Interlochen lets you escape what's going on at home and focus on the meaning of each song. The wind, the trees, and the practice huts—it's unreal how much you are surrounded by motivation and inspiration. You leave Interlochen a different person than when you arrived. You can use your new skills in a better way—to help and to change the world. I'll never forget the time that I've spent at Interlochen. This place will always be with me.

Now, Interlochen wants to expand its reach, and the quality of instruction it offers. The original Sasaki plan noted that fact 30 years ago, citing the forest as its primary visual attraction. Today, it feels a bit like a small city in Scandinavia, modest and hodgepodge, a collection of functional, appealing but never ostentatious buildings. Like the arts themselves, the design here is more organic than orderly, and no doubt will continue to evolve even after the master plan has been forgotten.
